Fire Island & Connecticut Landscape

I stumbled upon these watercolors while organizing my filing and I felt that it's time to part with them. One does get very attached to one's work.

This is one of my very favorite places. A cabin on the bay where I go swimming and have been visiting for 27 years. I find the quiet of Fire Island very inspiring - the air is clean, there are no cars and there are beautiful gardens. Sunsets from this place are exceptional.

I did this black and white sketch on my first vacation in the United States in 1950. And since I didn't fit in with the group I was with, I did a lot of sketching.

The David Citadel

An oldie but a goodie. Painted in 1995 - experimenting with a new style, the palette knife. Trying to convey the feeling of ancient stonework.

The Israelis call the Golan Heights the eyes of Israel because they can see virtually all of Israel from the heights. After the war with Syria the Israelis conquered the Golan. Before the war Syrians would regularly shoot at the Israeli Kibbutz and the Israelis often had to spend time in bomb shelters. My uncle was one of the founders of Kfar Szold and my family lived there. I was there in 1993 and I painted this picture.

Israel (New Work)

In May this year I was in Israel and traveled through the whole country. My impression of Israel was of its quiet, peacefulness and cleanliness. And then at one point the small town of Sderot was bombarded with rockets daily. This painting expresses my feeling about this lovely country which is surrounded by hateful enemies.

I always think of Israel as a magical land where religions are united and there is so much history. You can just imagine yourself on a warm night staring at the sky. Every time I visit Israel I feel right at home and my Christian friends who have visited Israel told me they have the same feeling. Our forefather Abraham who is buried in Israel unites us all.
